Issue 41 April/May  2012

All the major van makers appear to be releasing either upgraded models or brand new versions for our market and they are coming to Australia, with new technology, better performance, lower fuel consumption and a reduction in exhaust emissions.

We start our reviews in this issue with a look at the all-new Colorado from Holden. This is a brand new product from the ground-up and although manufactured in Thailand, pretty much like all other Japanese-styled utes, there a high degree of input into the final product that’s come from Holden designers and engineers based in Port Melbourne.

Nissan has also been busy in developing its ute range and we have all the details of upgrades to existing models plus the broadening of the range that includes a better price position for the extremely impressive 550Nm diesel V6 engine. We also pose the question on behalf of our readers as to why this manufacturer has not taken advantage of its global product range and introduced some of its available van and light truck products to our market.

The completely updated Renault Master range of medium and long wheelbase vans has arrived in our country and is now on sale. As you can see on our front cover shot, it’s a great looking van with a lot more street presence than its predecessor.

The Renault van line-up now includes the Master as its flagship product and this will also increase in terms of its variants in the months ahead to include chassis cab versions and possibly high roof options for the van models. Stand by also for some running detail changes to the smaller Kangoo and mid-range Trafic.

The light commercial vehicle operator has always been used to the notion of using LPG (Liquid petroleum Gas) as an alternative fuel source but up until now it’s always usually been as the result of an aftermarket conversion. That’s all changed now the Holden releasing a dedicated LPG fuelled version of the Commodore ute.

Delivery Magazine has been out and about the roads of Victoria trialing the new LPG powered versions and come back with a report that it’s extremely impressive.

Alternative fuels also come under the Delivery Magazine spotlight in this issue as Technical Editor Allan Whiting clears away the myths of bio-fuels. The introduction of bio-fuels into our market will eventually touch all vehicle operators so now is the time to understand what lies ahead.

Thanks for joining us.

Stay safe and enjoy the drive.
