ISSUE 15 April/May 2012

Every day there seems to be yet another new car release where fuel efficiency and reduced emissions takes centre stage in terms of importance. That’s a far cry from Australia’s supposed preoccupation with high performance cars and V8 engines, and in our view it shows that our competition is simply off the mark, focusing on performance rather than efficiency.

As Australia’s only magazine covering the rapidly growing range of fuel efficient, affordable and fun to drive cars available in this country, we welcome you to our way of looking at the car market. Our aim is to put you in the driver’s seat and keep you informed of everything that’s of interest in this ever changing world of the automotive industry.

Our latest issue is packed with new releases and first drives. The Fiat TwinAir, Audi A1 Sport, Suzuki Swift Sport and Skoda Fabia lead us into discussing the merits of the VW Tiguan and comparing the VW Golf with a Toyota Prius.

We look at the increasing availability of dedicated LPG fuelled cars such as the Ford Falcon EcoLPI and the latest LPG version of the Holden Commodore. Both great cars and both offering significant savings in fuel costs.

Honda’s new CR-Z gets a close scrutiny together with the all-new Kia Rio and Hyundai Veloster. It’s a new age when Korean cars now rank with the best of japan in terms of quality, style and economy.

We compare the Audi A6 with BMW’s 535, run between Sydney and Melbourne to produce accurate fuel consumption reports and we look at the new Toyota Camry Hybrid, a great update on an already impressive car.

Jaguar’s XF diesel gets a further mention and our technical editor Allan Whiting heads to Singapore to look at new green tyre technology then returns to Australia to discuss bio-fuels. Both these topics will have an impact on Australian motorists.

As usual this issue contains our unique and comprehensive specification charts that outline every model on the market that consumes either diesel or petrol at under our 8.0 l/100kms upper limit. We also include all alternative fuel options together with hybrid and other new technology entering the automotive industry.

In June we will be publishing our results of our annual ECOcar of the Year evaluation, finding out which is the overall winner in a market full of high competition. That’s another reason for making ECOcar Magazine your choice of reading.

Thanks for joining us, stay safe and enjoy the drive.

Kind regards,

Chris Mullett

 Managing Editor/Publisher ECOcar magazine.
