Welcome to Powertorque. We’re halfway through a year that for some has been really difficult but now the gloom seems to be lifting and we can all look forward to things getting better as we head towards Christmas. And what better way to lift your spirits then to check out the June issue of PowerTorque and read all about the latest news from the Mid America Truck Show in Kentucky. America really tried its best to shake off its own recession as the PowerTorque team headed Stateside to catch up on all the latest gossip and news. And there’s certainly plenty of news with Navistar launching a limited edition special to commemorate the Harley Davidson and releasing details about its deal with Caterpillar to use the 15 litre engine block in future trucks. In this issue we tell you all the latest about the changing technology with face to face interviews with the heads of Cummins and Detroit Diesel. We also caught up with Chris Patterson before he retires from heading Freightliner and Daimler Trucks North America. Back home and our June issue has all the details of the winners at our Truck of the Year Awards held in Melbourne. Our feature stories include some great trucks and great operators with Eastern Log Haulage, Xpress refrigerated freight and GTS Freight Management. We drive the new 660 hp Volvo FH16 and the 600 hp Actros 3 up and down the Hume Highway and we look at all the new developments in off road trucks from Mercedes-Benz. If you love our full colour posters then you really are in for a treat as this month we have a big value double poster. On one side is the immaculate Western Star of Eastern log Haulage and on the reverse you’ll find a full colour portrait of the Lone Star Harley Davidson Special Edition. We got a sneak look at what was going to appear in the Brisbane Truck Show so we’ll keep you up to date on the latest in LNG and CNG as well as what’s happening on the hybrid front. We also visit the Central Coast and Penrith truck Shows and bring you all the local news from all those participating. Don't forget if you want to check out more photos of the show go to our website at www.powertorque.com.au then click on Trucker's Talk and follow links to Events and Shows for a full photo feature. No matter how tough the market at PowerTorque we’re all about being positive and trying to bring all our readers the best magazine on trucks in Australia. We also send a warm welcome to the increasing number of new readers joining us from North America and Canada and also of course those in New Zealand. Kind Regards Chris Mullett Managing Editor/ Publisher |
