CURRENT ISSUE ...
Issue 36 Aug/Sept 2010

Our new August issue of PowerTorque brings our readers the unique addition of a DVD that identifies the cause and possible solutions to heavy truck rollover crashes. It’s a must view DVD that will be of interest to everyone in road transport and comes from our association with VicRoads in conjunction with the Victorian Road Freight Advisory Council. Supporting this DVD is our feature on the awareness programme that underpins all the information contained in the DVD.

In this issue we interview leading international trailer brake expert Jeff Lowe. His company Dr. Air Brake is about to launch a new range of diagnostic equipment into Australia that simplifies the checking of trailer braking systems, cutting downtime to a fraction of what is normally expected.

We’ve been back on our travels around the country interviewing different operators and in this issue we profile Graham Brown Transport in NSW and Griffith Transport, Barker Transport and Ron Wilson Removals in Brisbane. We visit Melbourne Tile Transport and showcase how the company has been totally innovative in Performance Based Standards accreditation that has improved productivity. It’s available to anyone that does the research and expends the effort to provide alternatives to the legislators.

Our resident road test editor David Whyte has been out again running the Hume Highway at 560hp in a Euro V Scania R-Series and then he was off to Dubbo to see at first-hand what the industry proposes for the future in multi-combination trailer groups. You’ll be surprised by what’s on offer.

We also look at the lighter end of the market and the impact we expect Hyundai light trucks to make on the pickup and delivery (PUD) segment in our major cities.

Make sure you get your new issue by checking with your local newsagent or branch of Borders Bookstores, subscribing direct through our website or taking the alternative choice of downloading your copy as a digital version straight to your laptop, desk top or I-Pad. Just check out the subscriptions link on our website at www.powertorque.com.au to find out the details.

Finally, our apologies for the later on-sale date of the new issue which hits the news stands on Friday August 6th. The closure of our long term distributors forced us to make a change for distribution to Network Services and for this first issue our distribution date slipped back one week. The good news though is that we are back on track to our usual timeframe for the October issue.

Stay safe,

Kind regards Chris Mullett

Managing Editor/Publisher
